We are praying that 2018 will bring great things. As a part of our Prayer and Fasting week, we have created a daily devotional for you to follow along with us, as we pray and fast as one church.

Each day will consist of one VERSE, followed by a brief NOTE written by one of our campus pastors. Next will be a RESPONSE, where we want to encourage you in a specific direction for that day of the week. Lastly, we have written a PRAYER for you to pray along with the whole Faith community.

Check back each day to see that day devotional.

MONDAY: FAMILY

VERSE

But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
- Joshua 24:15

NOTE

This verse has been quoted countless times, turned into a song, and even found itself plastered on every wall decor piece Hobby Lobby can sell! Israel’s leader, Joshua, is giving a sort of farewell address. He’s reminding the people of all the amazing things God has done for them. As a result, it’s clear to Joshua how important it is for he and his family to follow the Lord. In fact, he makes a command—“we will serve the LORD.”

RESPONSE

As we kick off our week of fasting, pray and fast for your family (both the ones you were given and the ones you choose). Ask God to give you the strength to lead your family to serve the Lord. Fight for those in your family who aren’t serving God! And know that every prayer is heard by the Father who desires, just as you do, for your family to serve Him! Remember, this is the year of greater things!

PRAYER

“Lord, bless my family. Keep my family in Your hands. Bring those in my family who are far from You back home to You where they belong. Give my family currently serving You the guidance and strength to consistently walk with You each day. May we now and always serve You, the Lord!”

TUESDAY: PASTORS & LEADERS

VERSE

"Care for the people that God has entrusted to you. Watch over them willingly, not grudgingly - not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example." - 1 Peter 5:2-3

NOTE

Those who lead the church should remain humble and teachable. It is a reminder that students are never greater than their Teacher. Church leadership should exemplify what it means to follow the only one who is worth following: Jesus Christ. Their greatest method of influence is not found in the words that they speak, but when their actions align with what they teach.

RESPONSE

Let's pray for our pastors and leaders, as they guide the church in a direction that is in line with Jesus. Let's pray for our leaders to lead with humility and compassion.

PRAYER

Father, we pray for those You entrust to lead the local church. Let their hearts be enlightened as they study, meditate and receive Your Word; applying it to their own hearts first as they serve Your people with a sincere and genuine desire to glorify Your Name. In Jesus, we pray, Amen.

WEDNESDAY: INFLUENCERS

VERSE

“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.” - Daniel 4:37

NOTE

Today in our culture there has recently been a serious backlash against many influencers and leaders that have allowed their own “power” to go to their heads leading them to belittle and abuse others for personal pleasure and gain. From Hollywood producers to politicians to media personalities, it seems that the dominoes keep toppling. We can only hope that it is a desire for integrity that is driving this movement rather than the spirit of vengeance or revenge. Most of you know that Nebuchadnezzar was not a godly king. In fact, he wreaked much havoc and destruction upon God’s people, including dragging many of them into exile and taking holy objects from the house of God. To see a verse where he praised God is strange unless you’re aware of what God allowed him to endure. Daniel tells us of a season where the pagan king’s wits and influence were stripped from him. It took him to a place of humility and brokenness that allowed him to recognize Jehovah as God rather than himself.

RESPONSE

It must be our prayer today, as the body of Christ, that the influencers of our culture (political leaders, musicians, actors, anchors, anyone with a platform) would have an encounter with our savior, Jesus, and begin to live and use their influence in a way that honors Him and not themselves.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we join together today, as we fast, and focus our thoughts and prayers on those most recognizable and influential in our culture. We pray that our political leaders would fear Your opinion over popular opinion and that they would be driven by character and integrity. We pray for the musicians, actors, and artists that shape the entertainment industry and that they too would begin to use their platform for Your glory. We believe that if you were able to get the attention of a Nebuchadnezzar then, either by Your divine intervention or through your church, You can turn the heart of our culture back to You.

THURSDAY: WORLD

VERSE

For this is what the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’ - Acts 13:47

NOTE

In the beginning of a new year, our focus is usually consumed with "self". We set resolutions, goals, new habits, and many plans to make sure we are a better person in the new year. I find these goals admirable. I believe God desires that every year we grow in our faith and in maturity in relationship with him. But often, we lose sight of another reason why this is so important. Not only is it important that we grow for ourselves and our relationship with Jesus, but also to fulfill the call of our verse in Acts 13:47 to be, "a light for the Gentiles". Your faith is not just for you, but also for others. We grow so that we can go! As our world fades quickly into darkness your growth allows you to shine as a light of grace, hope, and love. By doing this we fulfill the final part of this passage by, "bringing salvation to the ends of the earth".

RESPONSE

As we believe God for greater things personally, we also believe in greater things in our community, our nation, and our world. As you ask God to grow you, ask God also to use you, your church, and His Church around the world to be a light in the darkness, to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.

PRAYER

Lord, as I believe greater things for myself, my family, and my church, I also pray for greater things in our community, our nation, and our world. We ask that where there is need that you would equip and enable your church to bring hope and relief. We pray for missionaries around the world that you would give them favor in their communities and resources to do all that you have called them to. Lord help me to be a light in my community, in my church, in my workplace, and wherever you place me. Amen.

FRIDAY: SELF

VERSE

This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ - Matthew 6:9-13

NOTE

The Lord’s prayer is a beautiful portrait of what our personal prayers to the Lord should look like. We acknowledge God for who He is, ask for His will to be done and ask for HIs provision and protection in our lives.

RESPONSE

Now that we have spent time over the last few days praying for others, let’s take some time today to seek God on our own behalf; He is after all our heavenly Father and cares very much for you on a personal level.

PRAYER

Father, Thank you for your love, your mercy, and your grace! I am truly believing that this year is going to be a year of greater things for me personally and spiritually. Please help me to have a greater understanding of your word and to place you in the center of all that I do. Help me in my weaknesses and give me the desire, the strength, and ability to resist any temptation that enters my mind. Help me to forgive those who wrong me in the same way that you have forgiven me. Give me a clean and pure heart and let my actions and speech bring you glory. May this be the year that I lead my lost family members, friends and co-workers to you. Thank you for loving me as a Father loves His child. I pray for your blessings and your favor over my finances, my health, and my emotional and spiritual state of being. Give me wisdom and insight into every major decision I make in 2018. I love you. I need you. I thank you in advance for a year of Greater Things! In Jesus name, Amen!
